Online Therapy

1798039813Working online truly meets you where you are – even in sweatpants.

“Ugh, I don’t want to go to therapy today.” “There’s no parking.” “I can’t take the time away from work.” “Traffic is horrible.” “I just can’t get out of bed today.”

These are all reasons we might avoid going to therapy. They are ordinary, reasonable, and genuine. Luckily, with online therapy, we can eliminate most of these concerns.

Therapy is supposed to “meet you where you are,” but that isn’t always true, given the limitations of in-person, traditional sit-on-the-couch-and-talk therapy.

Meeting virtually lets me see where you are, in whatever state or outfit you find yourself in that day. I remember thinking, “What do I wear?” to my first therapy appointment. I also remember rescheduling at least twice due to conflicts at work.

Don’t let life’s commitments keep you from the therapy you need.

Days when you can’t get to therapy are often the times you need it the most.

I understand there can be a strangeness to meeting online, but honestly, that also exists in person.

As in any relationship, the beginning can be the most challenging or awkward. Eventually, you hit a groove, and what once felt strange starts to feel natural.

While working online, I do my best to welcome you to the virtual therapy space with warmth and compassion, as I would in person.

Like many other services, therapy has become very streamlined for the online experience. I use Simple Practice as an Electronic Medical Record to store your information safely. This platform offers you a client portal where you can request information and change payments.

After our initial consultation, I will send you paperwork via Simple Practice to complete at your convenience. This part of the process can feel very clinical, so if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. We’ll schedule our first session, and I will send you a link to Google Meet for our session. Google Meet is HIPPA-compliant and offers a private virtual space for us to talk.

One of the best parts of meeting virtually is being as comfortable as you need. As long as you are in a private space, I am okay with where you decide to have therapy.

We’ll begin with a breath practice to give yourself a moment to “arrive” in your therapy session. You might be jumping into our session directly from a work meeting, parenting, or your favorite Netflix series and need a moment to remember where you are and why you’re here.

My “waiting room” is wherever you are, so instead of the awkward looks of other people and uncomfortable chairs, you are in your chosen spot and given a moment to breathe.

Online sessions are no different from working in person.

Our discussion will flow from past sessions, reviewing your goals and exploring what’s going on in your life.

I enjoy using metaphors and images, so I might share screen occasionally to help these concepts come to life. If helpful, we can incorporate mindful movement in our time together.

I hope you will feel empowered in your sessions and have a sense of grounding and validation when you close your laptop or app on your phone.
