Individual Therapy for Women

678841039“It’s literally impossible to be a woman.”

If this quote from America Ferrera’s monologue in the Barbie movie hit home for you, then you’re in the right place. As I watched this part of the movie, I kept saying, “Yes!” in my head.

The struggle to “have it all” in your career, body, motherhood, romantic partnership, and emotional well-being is real. Women feel pressured to figure out who they are, stick to it, succeed, and deal with the discrimination and sexism of society. It’s overwhelming, and it can feel like you’re the only one facing challenges.

When you open your phone and check social media, do you feel jealous or annoyed that others seem to have it all together? Are you second-guessing yourself and daydreaming about a different life? Do you feel curious about marriage, motherhood, or staying single and what that looks like for you? These are all questions clients of mine have brought to therapy.

I see you, and I am you. As a woman, these are all questions and feelings I’ve had myself. As your therapist, I won’t pretend to have it all figured out. I offer a chance to talk openly about what you’re feeling, thinking, and doing in a space that is truly just for you. Let’s unpack everything you’ve been pushing aside and see what the future holds.

Making the impossible possible.

“How can simply talking about yourself help anything?” In Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, you notice patterns and recognize how you interact with yourself and the world around you. We’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and actions as difficulties arise and in good times. (Therapy is not just for when things are hard!)

As your therapist, I gently challenge you to approach situations differently. It’s like shining a light in a dark room; you can see things differently and clearly. Therapy also shines a light on why you do the things you do.

After learning about your upbringing, significant life experiences, and how you’ve made it this far, it may be easier to understand your “why.” This type of learning is invaluable to developing new relationships, identifying what you love in life, and releasing you from anything holding you back.

Here’s how we will work.

I hope to provide you with resources you can use outside of our time together. We’ll begin each session with a breath practice and gentle seated movement. As we meet online, this allows us to create a routine for opening the session, enables you to get grounded, and demonstrates a tool you can use anytime, without me.

In our discussions, I often ask, “How does your body feel?” I ask this because our body holds much of our subconscious and provides insight into our “why.” This question pertains to the gut feeling you’ve been hearing about your whole life. It’s not wrong. Connecting your mind and body will allow you to assess your thoughts, feelings, and actions quickly to navigate life’s stress.

Don’t wait another moment wondering if this is the right thing to do. Therapy is a gift for yourself, and you shouldn’t put yourself off any longer.
